Manchester United vs Manchester City preview: Ole is up for the derby

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes tonight's derby showdown with Manchester City is the perfect game for Manchester United following their Champions League exit.

The under-fire Norwegian (pictured above) must lift his troops after their 3-2 defeat to RB Leipzig in midweek saw them fail to progress to the knockout phase of European football's elite tournament.

And while United have won just one of their five Premier League home games this season, Solskjaer is confident they can bounce back against their arch-rivals having done the double over them last term.

He said: "We have done well in last few games against City but there are loads of things we can do better.

"We got pegged back in the beginning in midweek and they scored from crosses, which was disappointing.

"We really wanted to go through but we have to move on. It was a tight group decided by fine margins.

"The focus since has been on this game, the Manchester derby. That is the best game you can ask for.

“This season we have handled setbacks quite well.

"Before the next game, you have to analyse what has gone wrong but it is important not to press the panic button every time because you know in football you cannot win every single game."

Anthony Martial has netted in three of the last four games against City and is fit, while Edinson Cavani faces a late fitness test.

Solskjaer, 47, has also thrown his weight behind David de Gea after another shaky display from the Spanish keeper in midweek.

If United do turn up with a point to prove, it will not surprise City boss Pep Guardiola, who is expecting his side to have a tough 90 minutes ahead.

Guardiola, 49, said: "We think we are going to face the best version of them and have talked a lot about what we have to do.

"It’s not a knockout game, it is three more points.

"It's important of course because of the quality of the opponent, but there are a lot of fixtures to come and we try to win our games."

Despite netting in the midweek victory over Marseille, Sergio Aguero will not start at Old Trafford and Eric Garcia is out for at least two weeks.

Did you know?

City have won seven Premier League games at Old Trafford, more than any other visiting side, with six of those coming in the last nine seasons.

Of all managers to have faced Guardiola at least four times in all competitions, Solskjaer has the highest win rate against the Spaniard, with the Norwegian winning three of their five meetings (60%).

Raheem Sterling has never scored in 16 league appearances against United.
