Rumour Has It: Haaland for Madrid if Mbappe doesn't arrive, Barca eye Depay, Wijnaldum and Garcia
Kylian Mbappe has long been coveted by Zinedine Zidane's Real Madrid.
The Paris Saint-Germain forward has also made no secret of his admiration for fellow Frenchman Zidane.
But Erling Haaland could be a cheaper option for Madrid amid the coronavirus pandemic.
TOP STORY – MADRID TURN TO HAALAND?
Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland is an alternative transfer target for Real Madrid if Paris Saint-Germain's Kylian Mbappe does not move to the Santiago Bernabeu, according to the front page of Tuesday's Marca.
Mbappe – also linked to Liverpool – has long been Madrid's number one transfer target and the LaLiga champions are preparing to make a move for the PSG star in 2021.
But if Mbappe does not make the switch from France to Spain, Haaland has emerged as another option for Zinedine Zidane.
ROUND-UP
- Barcelona are targeting a triple transfer swoop in January, reports Tuesday's edition of Mundo Deportivo. After failing in the previous window, Barca are prepared to renew their attempts to sign Lyon captain Memphis Depay, Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum and Manchester City defender Eric Garcia.
- Manchester United are very interested in Rennes and France sensation Eduardo Camavinga, says AS. The teenage midfielder has been heavily linked with Madrid and PSG.
- Calciomercato says Roma will return for Napoli outcast Arkadiusz Milik in January. Roma tried to sign the forward before the transfer window closed. It comes as Roma could offer Edin Dzeko a new contract after he was poised to join Juventus.
- Football London claims Chelsea are set to hand midfielder Jorginho a new contract after rejecting a move to rivals Arsenal.
Busquets: I could talk for five or six hours about Barcelona drama
Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets says he could talk for "five or six hours" about the turbulence at the club.
LaLiga giants Barca have been engulfed in drama for much of 2020, following Lionel Messi's public declaration that he wanted to leave the club, Luis Suarez's contentious departure to Atletico Madrid and the appointment of Ronald Koeman as new head coach following Quique Setien's dismissal in the wake of an 8-2 defeat to Bayern Munich.
Messi ultimately remained at Camp Nou after it became clear he would be unable to exercise a get-out clause in his contract, while Koeman refuted Suarez's claim that he was forced out of the club.
Busquets – currently on international duty with Spain – holds strong views on the state of his club but suggested it would take a significant amount of time to discuss them all.
"One thing is what happens outside, which is not the best moment of the club," he told a media conference ahead of Spain's Nations League clash with Ukraine. "And another what happens in the field, which was not our best year and it shows at an individual and collective level.
"If I stopped to give my opinion carefully, it could be five or six hours.
"On the field it was not our best year. Football is a team sport and if you are not well collectively, you will not be individually. But it has already happened and we have a new opportunity. Things have changed and we hope it will get better."
Busquets started Spain's 0-0 friendly draw with Portugal on Wednesday and their 1-0 Nations League win over Switzerland three days later to take him to 119 caps since his debut in 2008.
He is seventh on Spain's all-time most capped list but sits a whopping 55 behind record holder Sergio Ramos, who is the only player in the current squad to have played more international games than him.
The 32-year-old has dismissed following Barca team-mate Gerard Pique into international retirement, though, and says he hopes to remain part of the Spain squad for the foreseeable future.
"I focus on going season to season," he added. "It is clear that I am no longer 20-years-old and I cannot look much into the future. I feel fine.
"It depends on each situation of each player. A new but peculiar season has begun. I hope I can last a long time in the national team."
Choupo-Moting turned down new PSG contract to sign for Bayern
Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has revealed he turned down a new contract from Paris Saint-Germain before joining Bayern Munich on a free transfer.
The 31-year-old signed a one-year deal with the Bundesliga and Champions League holders last week after his two-season stay in Paris came to an end.
Choupo-Moting scored nine goals for the French giants, including a stoppage-time winner in the Champions League quarter-final clash with Atalanta in August.
He subsequently came off the bench in the defeat to Bayern in the final.
Speaking at a media conference on Monday, Choupo-Moting revealed: "After it ended with PSG they wanted me to stay. However, I did not accept and I am very happy to be here now.
"There have been other offers which have been very interesting. When I heard from Bayern I was not shocked but it was certainly an honour since they are a big club and the current European champions."
Choupo-Moting, who has previously played in the Bundesliga for Hamburg, Nurnberg, Mainz and Schalke, says he watched Bayern's superb treble-winning campaign last term admiringly and tipped them for Champions League glory despite his own side still being in the competition.
"I am confident enough to believe I can help Bayern win many titles again," he added. "Who knows, maybe another treble?
"It was an amazing feeling to face Bayern in the final. I'll be honest, I spoke to the guys before the quarter-final and told them that Bayern were my favorites to win the title. I told that to Neymar, amongst others.
"Many had Barcelona or other teams on their mind, but I still follow the Bundesliga closely and the previous six months had been impressive from Bayern. That makes me even happier to be here now."
