Sergio Ramos is one of the best defender in the world currently, apart from mastering the act of defending, Sergio Ramos is also good at scoring goals for his Club and Country which is one factors that set him way ahead of some defenders, Ramos is a defender but he is the permanent penalty taker for Spain and Real Madrid which is something rare, before Ramos missed two penalties in the UEFA Nations League he has played more than 20 penalties in previous games without missing any of them.
When it comes to the number of trophies won as a Captain, Sergio Ramos has lifted many trophies as the Captain of Real Madrid, he won the Champions League four times but he lifted it three times as Captain, Sergio Ramos also lifted the Spanish Laliga twice as Captain, in all the seasons that Real Madrid won a major trophy Sergio Ramos is always an important player in the team, he is either contributing to the team by helping them keep a clean or he is up front trying to score goals for his team, one of Ramos important goal for Real Madrid was when he scored an equalizing goal for Real Madrid against Atletico Madrid in the last minute of the UEFA Champions League final which helped Real Madrid to come back from a goal down to win the competition then.
There is no doubt that Sergio Ramos is a World class defender but with everything he has achieved as a player he is still behind Paolo Maldini, the two reasons why Sergio Ramos is behind Paolo Maldini is that;
1. Discipline: Sergio Ramos is a very good defender but he makes some decisions that gets his team in trouble sometimes, Sergio Ramos received 26 red cards and 223 yellow cards as a player which is too much considering the fact that he is defender, Paolo Maldini got just 4 red cards and 90 yellow cards throughout his career as a defender compared to Ramos 26 red cards it shows that Maldini is more desciplined than Sergio Ramos.
2. Defensive Composure: Paolo Maldini is regarded as one of the greatest defender of all time because of the way he operates as a defender, he knows how to organize his defense and coordinate other defenders around him, which is one attribute that puts him way ahead of others, though Maldini doesn't score goals but he does his work as a defender perfectly.
