Rashford and Fernandes did their duty in Man Utd win – Solskjaer

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praised the focus of Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford after the duo sparked a 3-1 comeback win for Manchester United at West Ham.

United were lacklustre before the interval and fortunate to only be 1-0 down, with Tomas Soucek on target for the hosts.

Donny van de Beek and Edinson Cavani – the latter having suffered a muscular injury – were withdrawn for Fernandes and Rashford to take to the field.

The Portugal playmaker laid on Paul Pogba's fantastic long-range equaliser and created eight chances during his time on the field, while Rashford tirelessly tore in behind the Hammers defence.

He made 12 sprints, with a chipped 78th-minute finish serving as a just reward.

"You have a duty to be ready when you are called upon. Bruno and Marcus came on and did well," Solskjaer told BBC Sport.

"First half we had loads of possession but we didn't go anywhere with the ball.

"Second half we stretched them more and ran in behind. The quality was much better. The goals were exceptional."

Arguably the pick of the goals came when Mason Greenwood gave United the lead with his first Premier League goal of the season, a deft first touch with his right foot before swivelling to finish venomously with his left displaying the teenager's lavish gifts following a tough period personally.

"Mason is a great finisher. We are just waiting for his season to get started," Solskjaer said.

"He is getting fitter. The first goal as well was top quality from Paul Pogba. Concentration, head and knee over the ball. I am so happy for him."

Pogba's goal did not please David Moyes to the same extent, with the West Ham manager protesting that a raking ball forward from United goalkeeper Dean Henderson to start the move curled out of play.

"The ball was over my head. I had the best view. It was definitely over the line," he told BBC Sport.

"The players all knew. That really changes the game.

"When the game gets stretched it doesn't suit us. We did not get over the disappointment of an unfair goal.

"We tried to be more expansive and they caught us on the break."
